Football pitches at Avoniel Leisure Centre ⚽️

Looking to play football in east Belfast? Avoniel Leisure Centre on Avoniel Road has seven 3G pitches on one site, from 5-a-side right up to a full size 11-a-side pitch. It's right in the middle of east Belfast so it's easy to reach for players from Ballymacarrett, Bloomfield, Ballyhackamore, Sydenham, Woodstock, Cregagh and the Short Strand.

Accessibility & Location 🌇

The centre sits among the terraced streets of east Belfast, with the Connswater Community Greenway and the Flora Street Walkway running right past it. Connswater Shopping Centre and C.S. Lewis Square at the Holywood Arches are only a few minutes away on foot. The whole site was rebuilt by Belfast City Council and reopened in 2021 as a football-focused centre, so the facilities are all fairly new.

Pitches: One full size 11-a-side 3G pitch built to intermediate standard, with a 240 seat covered stand. There's also a floodlit 7-a-side 3G pitch with 7-a-side or 9-a-side goals, two outdoor 3G 5-a-side pitches and three covered 3G 5-a-side pitches. Floodlights are included with bookings.
Changing Rooms & Showers: Available, along with lockers.
Parking: Free on-site car park with around 100 spaces, including 7 disabled spaces. There's also bike storage for 10 bikes.

Directions 📍

Entrance Guide: The main entrance and car park are on Avoniel Road. If you're walking or cycling, you can also come in off the Connswater Community Greenway.
Buses: The Glider G1 stops at the Avoniel halt on the Albertbridge Road, a short walk from the centre, and runs every 8 to 10 minutes during the day. Metro 18, 19 and 19A from the city centre stop on the Beersbridge Road.
Train: Bridge End is the nearest station, roughly 15 to 20 minutes on foot. From Lanyon Place or the city centre, the Glider is the easier option.

FAQs 🏟

What boots should I wear? Moulded boots or astro trainers on the 3G pitches. Metal studs are not allowed.
Are there toilets? Yes, toilets are available inside the main building.
